Military Sizing (NATO)

Military uniforms are designed to accommodate various sizes of the wearer, covering the entire range of clothing, including tops, trousers, coats, etc. The measurements are taken from various parts of the body, ensuring an accurate fit, and allowing others to understand the size of the clothing accurately. Refer to the NATO charts below for sizing conversions and Small-XXL chart.

Military Tops.

Military top sizes are displayed as sets of two numbers, i.e. 170/90. The first number refers to the wearer's height, while the second number refers to chest size, both in centimetres (cm). In this example, the top is designed to fit a wearer who is 170cmin height (5' 5") with a chest of 90cm (35.4"). Newer items will also be marked with the more common sizing letter, for example, 'M' for medium fit. When selecting a military top, aim to match your measurements as closely as possible. Refer to the charts below for sizing conversions.

Military Trousers

Military trouser sizes are shown as sets of three numbers, i.e. 76/88/104. The first number refers to the wearers inside leg (inseam), the second number refers to the waist size, and the third number refers to the seat (backside), all in centimetres (cm). The seat size is generally unimportant and not always used by manufacturers. In this example, the wearer would have an inside leg of 70cm (30"), a waist measuring 88cm (34"), and a seat measurement of 104cm (41"). Refer to the charts below for sizing conversions.

Foreign Military Clothing Sizes.

Foreign military clothing sizes are often displayed in a different format, so to make finding the correct size easier, we have added the equivalent NATO size to the item's description. In this example, the German Parka size refers to a wearer with a chest measurement of 52-54 inches. If you need assistance selecting the correct size, please contact us.

Item Grading

We take great care when grading items so you can have confidence that you'll receive items in the condition expected. We list items using the following categories based on their condition:

  • New / Unused - The item is new, unused, and has been stored. In most cases, these items are packaged, but it's not always the case. In the image is an unused 1970s smock that meets this grading but is unpackaged.

  • Super Grade - Very good condition (VGC) with little signs of wear.

  • Grade 1 - Signs of use, but in good condition, possibly light marks ; not heavily faded.

  • Grade 2 - Has small imperfections. Holes or scuffs, stains, marks or heavily faded, clip or buckles broken/cracked are an example.

  • Spares or Repair - Does not meet grade 2 but is usable for parts or making good other items. Damage will be listed in the description.
